SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, the Math Specialist plans and organizes instruction in ways that maximize student learning in alignment with the District Academic Achievement Plan. The Math Specialist plays a critical role in fostering strong mathematical reasoning,complex problem solving, critical thinking skills, tailoring interventions, and providing essential support to students of diverse abilities, ensuring a foundation for lifelong learning and success. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct instruction to students in classrooms and/or small groups to support academic growth.
  • Analyze data and support teacher planning for intervention strategies or enrichment reflected by the data analysis. 
  • Model a deep understanding of curriculum, the Ohio Learning Standards, and Dayton Public Schools Academic Action Plan.
  • Assist with the creation, revision and audit of  district curriculum, scope and sequence and supplemental resources.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of formative and summative assessment strategies. 
  • Model needs- based effective instructional strategies. 
  • Support teacher planning of intervention strategies within the MTSS framework for all students
  • Track the implementation of evidenced based interventions
  • Participate in Teacher Based Teams/ PLC’s and Building Leadership Teams. 
  • Create and present professional development concepts for adult learners with different levels of knowledge of the concept(s). 
  • Maintain professional confidentiality. 
  • Prepare reports as required by the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field  (Masters preferred) 
  • Must be willing to pursue certification in AP coursework and other professional development opportunities 
  • Licensure/certification from the Ohio Department of Education
  • Multiple grade level teaching experience preferred. 
  • At least five (5) years overall teaching experience preferred and commitment to continued employment with DPS. 

 

Math Specialists may be granted 10-20 extended service days, a teacher would be paid at a per diem rate for these days.

 

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS  

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
  • Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

  • Work will be performed in a general school setting
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
  • Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
  • Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
